Cosplay

Hellooooo

Holy smokes, where have I been? No idea.

It seems that everytime I say I’ll vlog, I don’t post for a century or two. So from now on, don’t ever expect a vlog from me. I think we both know that anyway, but I feel the need to say it, just in case.

SO. For those of you who haven’t abandonned this blog (and there were very few of you to begin with, so I don’t know how many are left), here’s what I’ve been up to.

A-Fest preperation!

Actually, I haven’t been doing too much for this, which is just stupid on my part. I have been better at planning, though.

Cosplay plans:

1. Aeris – Final Fantasy 7

2. Dean Venture – The Venture Bros.

3. Fire Nation Citizen – Avatar The Last Airbender

4. I dunno yet

But yes, there are FOUR DAYS of A-Fest. I find that wonderfully exciting XD

If I can’t get a costume for the last day, I’ll probably re-wear Aeris. And for pre-Reg, I’ll probably pre-wear Dean, since it was really fun seeing people dress up for that.

Here’s the coolest part so far: my Fire Nation costume is already made! Woo hoo! So all I have to make is Aeris’s dress and jacket, More >

Brief A-Kon Recap

So I’ll be doing a vlog about this…sometime (It may be in a week because I GOT A NEW JOB, YEAH! But I’m working two jobs until my two weeks are up, so time is cramped), but I just wanted to throw a few photos up here and briefly talk about how awesome A-Kon was.

So I ended up only doing two costumes: Misa from Death Note and Ranma from Ranma 1/2.

Reference Pics:

Misa

Ranma (The character in full-view.)

Just to explain, Ranma is a boy, but he’s been cursed so when he gets splashed by cold water, he turns into a girl.

My Misa costume was one I just assembled. I didn’t sew any of it and styling the wig just involved pulling the hair into pigtails (I didn’t have the right wig. The one I had ordered for the costume has yet to come in…No idea where it is).

My Ranma costume, on the other hand, was completely sewn by me. Shirt, pants, sash, cuffs. The only thing I was missing was my collar because we ended up needing some time before the con on Saturday morning to actually finish our homemade costumes and I decided that was just something I would have to add More >

*Cricket, cricket*

You know, crickets really make more of a chirping sound, but I worry if I wrote that you’d think the post was about birds and not the silence that’s been hanging over my blog lately.

Nothing much to report.

Ranma costume: 80% completed.

Misa costume: 95% completed.

Death costume: 98% completed.

Still waiting on a few wigs, still bumming around looking for a job (I am not really bumming, I’ve still got a job. I just feel like I’m bumming), still not making video game review shows.

I keep saying to myself, “After A-kon, things will get calmer because my free time won’t be used to get ready for A-kon.” But who knows if that’s really true.

Next comes the costume I’ll be wearing to The Last Airbender midnight release. Has anyone seen that new trailer?! The Blue Spirit was in it! I almost shrieked in the theater. I loooooved the Blue Spirit.

I think I’m definitely going to put together a fire-nation costume for that. I’ve always liked the water element better, but the fire nation is just so misrepresented by their leader. Allllthough…maybe I should do a costume for each movie release and go as the themed element? That means water, then earth for the second, More >

Woohoo!

I’m so excited. About two days ago (I haven’t posted this sooner because I went to the casino with a few of the affiliates yesterday and didn’t have time), I made my very first pair of pants, and they look GOOD. Like, I’m amazed. I’m in awe. I can WEAR THEM!

Haha. It really is one of the coolest things. I took a large swath of black broadcloth, cut it into shapes, and stitched up like, five lines and I had a completed pair of cute pants.

I made them for my Ranma 1/2 costume, but I’m definitely going to be making them again. Already I fell asleep in them because they’re just so damn comfortable. I am not planning on making it a habit to sleep in my cosplay outfits, btw. But I am planning on making a second pair as lounge/sleeping pants. And I want a  pair to just wear out – I threw on a pair of heels just to see how it would look, and it worked out perfectly. Now I know what to do when I want a pair of cotton summer pants for going to the beach club in or to just go shopping in.

I’ll take More >

It’s been quiet…Too quiet…

I’ve been busy, okay? Sheesh.

Haha, no one reads this thing to care.

But I have been pretty busy.

I’ve got one month until A-Kon and I don’t have any costumes ready, and I know my affiliates who are joining me on this trip are nowhere near ready either; work’s been hectic like woah, almost to the point where I can’t even breathe without thinking and stressing about it a little; the affiliates and I have launched a new group site dedicated to geeky reviews (you can check out the new site at www.afterthought-studios.com, although it’s already getting a little neglected. I never thought playing games in order to get footage and information on them would feel like a chore); and I’ve been trying to work out the details on a small road trip I plan on taking in July.

All in all, chattering away on my own site hasn’t been a top priority, although it has been hovering over me like a guilt-inducing shadow, especially since I was planning on doing so many articles between my last post and now.

Ah well.

In my attempt to de-stress this past month, I’ve tried my hand at watercolor painting, which I’m enjoying very much, I’ve been watching More >

Hey look, I now have non-English speaking spammers!

So A-kon is in 5 months and I have NO CLUE who to cosplay. Yeah, I’d like to be Edward Elric, but I still don’t feel good enough with my sewing to try that – that’s one I really want to save for when I can do it right.

I was thinking of getting my group to do Pokemon, and even Railz suggested I be Misty for a day, but I was never a huge Pokemon watcher, I only wanted the cute cards that my friends gave me for free, and I never really got into the video games. So I don’t really want to go as Misty.

I liked Sailor Moon, but never saw the whole thing, and never watched it in Japanese. Sakura’s too young/little for me. Haruhi either too plain in her school uniform, or too…Haruhi in the bunny outfit. Final Fantasy is like FMA for me. Gotta do it right or not at all.

Maybe Metal Gear. I’d love to try Snake’s sneaking suit…Hmmm…

But that’s still only one day! I have Ishtar’s dress from Vampire Game, but I don’t know if it’s con-worthy. It was a great learning experience, but she’s so little known…

Siiiigh.

Oh yeah, I signed up for More >

Woah

Jesus, it’s been a while since I’ve been on, huh?

Dress Status: 90% Completed. All I have to do is work out the shape and hemming of the top and attach sleeves and I’m done.

Life Status: 97% Lazy. This could potentially affect the completion time of the dress.

You know what’s friggin delicious? Paska! It’s so good. My dad makes it every year for Easter, but for some reason he decided to make it in the middle of November and I’m happy. It’s what I had for breakfast. It’s a subtly sweet, dense, crumbly bread. Maybe it’s just nostalgic for me, but I think it’s the best bread. Hooray for cultural foods.

I’m reading a young adult series by James Patterson right now called Maximum Ride about children who have been genetically altered into human-bird hybrids and are now on the run from the laboratory they’ve escaped from. The writing is definitely lowered for the popular masses, but it’s not Dan Brown awful (someday maybe I’ll get my rage under control whenever I think about that guy and I’ll be able to write how awful he is) and once you get used to the 14 year-old girl protagonist voice, it’s actually better writing than More >

Things to Consider Before Making a Dress

1) Are you sane? 2) Can you sew? 3) Have you ever sewn before? 4) Do you really want to start with such a difficult project? 5) Are you sure you’re sane? 6) You’re a fucking moron. 7) Do you have the money to buy new fabric when you need to start over? Do you have the patience to start over? 9) Are you ever going to clean your living room afterward? 10) How are you going to react when it comes time to put the zipper in? 11) Are you violent? 12) Can the neighbors hear you through the walls? 13) Do you have a place you can go for a while? 14) You’re a fucking moron.

On a side note, Parasite Eve is such a damn good game. Why have I never finished it?

Edit: Hahaha, number 8…

INTERNEEETZ

I haven’t been on the computer in like, two days. If I was, it was briefly. Why? Because making a dress is hard! It’s hard, okay? Fuck zippers!

I am making progress, though. I can wear it. And it stays on. I now just have to make it look nice…

New Favorite Links

And over to your right, you’ll see three new links, all featuring cosplayers I really admire and like to follow. *Ahem* Please keep your hands and feet inside the blog and do not attempt to touch the cosplayers. I know they all look great, that’s no excuse.

Just so you know, all my links are in alphabetical order, no favoritism here! Well, except the fact that they’re my favorite links…

Jessica Nigri is a girl who FROZEN just showed me and I’ve really enjoyed looking through her gallery instead of doing work at my job. Apparently she hasn’t been cosplaying for very long (I didn’t read much yet, I was too captivated by the pictures), but you wouldn’t think so by the looks of her costumes. Some she keeps true to character (I don’t recognize all of them to know how many are close to the originals) and some she alters to fit a unique look. Good examples would be her as Rikku, which is damn near spot on, and her as Pikachu, which I think would definitely boost the number of Pokemon viewers if she replaced the real pikachu.

Twinfools is a cosplayer I’ve kept up with for a long while now. I More >
