*Cricket, cricket*

You know, crickets really make more of a chirping sound, but I worry if I wrote that you’d think the post was about birds and not the silence that’s been hanging over my blog lately.

Nothing much to report.

Ranma costume: 80% completed.

Misa costume: 95% completed.

Death costume: 98% completed.

Still waiting on a few wigs, still bumming around looking for a job (I am not really bumming, I’ve still got a job. I just feel like I’m bumming), still not making video game review shows.

I keep saying to myself, “After A-kon, things will get calmer because my free time won’t be used to get ready for A-kon.” But who knows if that’s really true.

Next comes the costume I’ll be wearing to The Last Airbender midnight release. Has anyone seen that new trailer?! The Blue Spirit was in it! I almost shrieked in the theater. I loooooved the Blue Spirit.

I think I’m definitely going to put together a fire-nation costume for that. I’ve always liked the water element better, but the fire nation is just so misrepresented by their leader. Allllthough…maybe I should do a costume for each movie release and go as the themed element? That means water, then earth for the second, More >

To Do List

So this site has been pretty text heavy lately. This post, sadly, will not be any different because I don’t have access to my image files, but I do plan on changing that a bit tonight and tomorrow.

Plans for the next week/things to look forward to:

  • Film my first video game review episode.
  • Post said video game review episode.
  • Do a couple Picture Posts for the following old games:
    • Policenauts
    • The Last Express
    • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
    • Sweet Home
    • Missing
  • Submit myself as a fan to the Jordan database for the fan-made update of Snatcher.
  • Kick my affiliates’ asses for:
    • not working on cosplays for a-kon (two affiliates).
    • (I changed my mind about this ass kicking. I want my affiliates to participate. And then we could totally have special joint vid episodes, like the War Room! So go on, I’ll kick your ass if you don’t join in now! (Shhh, I’m Dev, I can change my mind if I want)).
    • writing THE LONGEST POSTS IN THE WORLD after not posting for weeks (one awkward affiliate).
  • Clean up those damn links to the left.
  • Play Final Fantasy XIII, because I haven’t played in over a week and that’s just crazy.

On a side note, I’ve started really watching Code Geass and I’ve gotta More >

Update!

Bwuahaha! Look how pink! It’s like cotton candy!

I know it’s not the standard Dev site, and it probably won’t last long, but I wanted a dramatic change and I like the cuteness of this one. Plus it has more of a diary feel.

Which this is hardly a diary…but whatever!

I picked up my first dress patterns the other day, for like 2 bucks a pop. That is cheap! They are usually about 18$. Anyway, I got several regular styles that are kind of just basic patterns I should have on hand, and I got a couple that’ll be great for particular cosplays I already have in mind. I found a trench-style pattern that could work for both a steampunk costume and as a coat for Hei from Darker Than Black, who is a character Frozen has expressed interest in cosplaying. I picked up a military uniform pattern as well, maybe as a guide for Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist or maybe a Code Geass student uniform someday.

So far my line-up for A-Kon is: Neil Gaiman’s Death, Random Steampunk Skypirate.

Possibilites: Ed from Cowboy Bebop, The Red Whirlwind/Juliet from Romeo x Juliet, Hungary from Hetalia: Axis Powers, Female Ranma from Ranma 1/2, Kyoshi More >

How am I sick again?

Seriously, come on immune system! Try harder! -_-

At least I have tomorrow off.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a photo-review on here (even though the images in my reviews aren’t really photos…). But I watched a perfect movie the other day and knew right away I was going to have to post about it.

It’s titled — hold on, actually. I just have to say, AwkwardS is near me playing MAG, and his character just told a comrade to rub some dirt on a wound. Who says that anymore?? Pfft lol.

Anyway, the movie I watched, with AwkwardS incidentally, was called The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and it was just wonderful.

First, the film is just gorgeous. This isn’t uncommon for anime, but The Girl Who Leapt Through Time just does a perfect job visually. The animation style is a little different from standard anime, but the animation and the background detail add a level of quaintness that a lot of anime and non-anime movies fail to achieve.

Second, we have the story, and while the movie is beautiful, it’s the story that makes it shine. Makoto is your average high school girl – she’s not particularly great at anything, but she’s More >

Hey look, I now have non-English speaking spammers!

So A-kon is in 5 months and I have NO CLUE who to cosplay. Yeah, I’d like to be Edward Elric, but I still don’t feel good enough with my sewing to try that – that’s one I really want to save for when I can do it right.

I was thinking of getting my group to do Pokemon, and even Railz suggested I be Misty for a day, but I was never a huge Pokemon watcher, I only wanted the cute cards that my friends gave me for free, and I never really got into the video games. So I don’t really want to go as Misty.

I liked Sailor Moon, but never saw the whole thing, and never watched it in Japanese. Sakura’s too young/little for me. Haruhi either too plain in her school uniform, or too…Haruhi in the bunny outfit. Final Fantasy is like FMA for me. Gotta do it right or not at all.

Maybe Metal Gear. I’d love to try Snake’s sneaking suit…Hmmm…

But that’s still only one day! I have Ishtar’s dress from Vampire Game, but I don’t know if it’s con-worthy. It was a great learning experience, but she’s so little known…

Siiiigh.

Oh yeah, I signed up for More >

Affiliates, Assemble!

Seriously, where are you guys? AwkwardS pops up every so often, but the rest of you just dropped off the face of the internet. What’s up with that? Not that this will get you to post. But I’ve noticed! You thought you could just sneak away…

Anyway, here’s my first attempt at cel shading!

I’m pretty pleased with how this came out. I’m particularly happy with how the hair looks. I know it’s all still very beginner, but I’m just going to keep practicing, keep trying to get better. I did notice that when I looked at this image on AwkwardS’s computer monitor, you couldn’t see the shading on the dress at all, so I’ll have to fix that eventually, but for right now I’m just going to leave it as is. Pluuugs

Lalala.

There hasn’t been much to talk about this week.

AwkwardS and Frozen have both been to see Avatar and said it was a good watch, but I just can’t bring myself to go see it. All the money they put into that movie went to graphics and more than one source has said the story is just a rehashed Fern Gully. While I liked Fern Gully well enough, I don’t really want to see it redone with better graphics. First, I love 2-D animation. A lot. Not so big on the 3-D or CGI. Second, if I’m going to spend money to go see a movie, it’s not going to be a movie I’ve pretty much seen before. I put graphics second to story, as you can tell by my taste in (old) video games, so this movie just makes me annoyed. I’m tired of this trend lately in games and movies of graphics coming before story. What a waste of my time.

Now I’m gonna plug a bunch of stuff!

First, since we’re talking about movies, let me just say Miyazaki’s Castle in the Sky is brilliant. It’s an older film and does not need to be plugged at all, but I More >

Oh, English Dubbed Pokemon, I will always love you.

Best line on Pokemon today: Ash – “I didn’t realize dewgong’s horn was so hard!”

I hate winter. I hate the cold and I hate how much my hands hurt because my skin gets so dry. I can only put up with it if it snows. Ah my haaaands! Q_Q

What are you up t0 today? What is your goal for the week? Have you done anything creative lately? You should tell me in a comment. If you’re one of my affiliates, you should tell me on your blog. Do you know how sad I get when I go through the blog ring and the only new thing to read is my own post? Come on now, I have like, 4 readers, yet I still post at least a couple times a week. It’s not about quantity, people! And if that’s really all you care about anyway, you should realize you’ll never keep readers if they get tired of checking your un-updated site. *Ahem* Like me.

I’m really enjoying Ben Caldwell’s cartoon style. If you haven’t explored his site, I suggest looking here in particular. I would love to read Dracula in that format. There’s just such character in all his images. That’s More >

Ender’s Game Series

AwkwardSilence wrote an amazing review of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game, Ender’s Shadow, and Speaker for the Dead. I highly suggest you go over and read it, and then go buy the books and read those. I won’t bothering reviewing the series myself, I wouldn’t do nearly as well as AwkwardS did.

But see, people? I don’t just rave about everything under the sun. Quite the opposite. I think it’s really hard to find things good enough to strongly recommend, so when I do, it’s all I want to talk about. Why would I waste my time raving about things that aren’t one of the best things I’ve ever experienced? I might post about things I just liked, or even disliked, on here, but when I recommend something, when I say “it’s one of the best things I have ever read/played/watched/whatever,” I’m not blowing smoke. So even when it seems like all I do is praise things, just know that it’s not that I’m easy to impress – it’s really quite hard to impress me. It’s just that I only like talking about things worth praising, and I really do want to spread around the things I love because they deserve to More >

Woah

Jesus, it’s been a while since I’ve been on, huh?

Dress Status: 90% Completed. All I have to do is work out the shape and hemming of the top and attach sleeves and I’m done.

Life Status: 97% Lazy. This could potentially affect the completion time of the dress.

You know what’s friggin delicious? Paska! It’s so good. My dad makes it every year for Easter, but for some reason he decided to make it in the middle of November and I’m happy. It’s what I had for breakfast. It’s a subtly sweet, dense, crumbly bread. Maybe it’s just nostalgic for me, but I think it’s the best bread. Hooray for cultural foods.

I’m reading a young adult series by James Patterson right now called Maximum Ride about children who have been genetically altered into human-bird hybrids and are now on the run from the laboratory they’ve escaped from. The writing is definitely lowered for the popular masses, but it’s not Dan Brown awful (someday maybe I’ll get my rage under control whenever I think about that guy and I’ll be able to write how awful he is) and once you get used to the 14 year-old girl protagonist voice, it’s actually better writing than More >
